Fitness Fellowship 2023: Week 37 Check-in

September used to be a harbinger of excitement for me. Now, it's mostly dread I feel until my body and brain settle into being back-to-school. What marks the calendar in your life that makes for body-and-brain changes annually? Any regular season/event/holiday/month you dread or love? How do your feelings about that impending date affect your physical habits? Feel free to ignore these questions entirely! Lol!

Please do NOT ignore the opportunity to check in with us about your fitness journey though. Yay? Nay? Something in between?

My weight this morning is the same as it was last week, so I guess that's better than it going up. I didn't expect much of a change because although I'm eating less (because I'm so busy and often don't have the time or privacy--I'm masking again--to eat at work), I'm not getting enough exercise.

Now, every work day, I came home with more than or almost 10K steps, so I *am* getting a lot of walking in at school. However, that's not the same as purposeful exercise, and there was one day this week when I didn't exercise at all--too tired. Another two days, I got maybe 15-20 minutes (once on the bike, once walking around the library where I work the late shift twice a week). Yesterday, however, I walked almost four miles (on purpose), so I think that shows a willingness not to slack when my flesh is as willing as my spirit.

My sleep pattern has contributed to my exhaustion. I have been getting to bed on time, but I don't always fall asleep right away (or at all). One night, I got up and took half a dose of melatonin just to finally shut my brain down. Friday night, of course, I went to bed at 9:30 and slept for 10 hours, which is extremely uncharacteristic of me. So, you know, my brain is having difficulty adjusting to the constant rotation of stressors that is my life at school, particularly now that I've picked up two new responsibilities. (Ugh, I KNOW. I'm supposed to be saying NO. But one is a project *I* proposed without entirely thinking through the inevitable consequence of me having to then DO said project, and the other should be just me offering ideas and guidance and someone else doing the organizing.)

ANYway...

There was some meditation and breathing. I do my best to hydrate, though bathroom breaks are tricky now that I'm so far from the nearest ladies room. I'm also having some mild cramping and bleeding related to that endometrial fibroid, but I have another ultrasound coming up in a couple of weeks, so that should shed some light on things. (I'm not worried at all. It's just inconvenient.)

Oh, and eating...I mean, I haven't been eating crap, but I also haven't been making fresh prepped meals at home in the evenings because I'm so tired. Today, I'm making a big (healthy) baked pasta dish and probably a second dish (maybe chili), so I have easy meals to reheat. I have four later evenings this week thanks to extracurriculars and aforementioned library duties, so I'm definitely going to need to have easy meal options, and I'm going to have to do my best to force myself to exercise after dinner each night despite my exhaustion.

Here's hoping I can get good sleep tonight to anchor the busy week ahead. *sighs*

I hope the week ahead gives you the kind of balance you most desire.

My body was feeling the change of seasons - it's getting darker noticeably earlier now and I think that messed up my sleep. I dread shorter days, but eventually I'll settle into fall.

I made it to pilates this week twice! We'll see if I can keep it up, I have a busy couple of weeks coming up.

Pasta and chili are such good go-to meals for me because they still taste good after being microwaved. I hope the ultrasound goes well!

My week was good! I lost 0.5KG and I did well on eating. For me the main trick is just avoiding sugar, it helps so much with the cravings.

Readjusting my sleep pattern has been tough for me too but I've started taking Piriton (antihistamine) as a sleep aid and it really works. It's definitely helping me to fall asleep and then stay asleep. I didn't make it to the gym at all last week - not even my usual pilates class - because everything's been so busy. I guess I managed to fast but not purposefully. I just missed lunch weds, thurs, fri because I was busy. It's okay, though, I know what I need to do and I also know it's going to take a couple of weeks of readjustment to build things into my routine.

Sorry about the difficulties adjusting. : (

Last week's goals:
- No work emails after nine, no computer after ten, and turn out the light at eleven.
Not perfect, but I did okay.

- Go hiking two days.
Yes! It was lovely.

- Go running on one day (possibly two).
- Work out on four days, and do workouts other than my usual one.
(The amount of workouts/runs will be affected by the possibility of going sailing with my parents on the weekend.)
The amount of workouts/runs was indeed affected by that! I was away sailing for two nights, and away hiking one night, so in total that's five days off my usual schedule, when I didn't run/work out. I only worked out one day, but then I did a good long workout. But hey, I got to go hiking and sailing. : )

This week's goals:
- No work emails after nine, no computer after ten, and turn out the light at eleven.
- Go hiking two days on the weekend (I'm taking every chance before the evenings get too dark).
- Go running twice.
- Work out on four days, and do workouts other than my usual one.

Well, when I say workout, I mean one of the YouTube workout videos that I use! Obviously hiking gives me a lot of exercise. : )
