Fitness Fellowship 2022: Week 4 Check-in
Jan. 29th, 2022 06:18 pmHello, Friends!
We're still having frigid weather here, with little respite in sight, but I'm actually happy for it because it feels a lot more like the winters I remember than in more recent years. I recognize that this doesn't mean climate change isn't happening--I know that it is. It just feels nice to have weather like I remember it.
Anyway, whatever your weather, I hope you're able to do the sorts of things for your health that you most enjoy and that you've had a good week. As usual, please share your ups and downs, as you will, and anything you're planning for the week ahead.
Weight: I've lost quite a bit from last week's high weight, and I'm down 2.2 altogether for the month of January, so I'm pleased with that. I'd like to lose 1.5 to 2 pounds a month, with my goal being to re-attain my personal goal weight range of 170-172 pounds. I think those are doable short- and longer-term goals.
Exercise: I've been working away on the elliptical, have been doing steps and stairs at work, have used the recumbent exercise bike a couple of times, and have also done some mall-walking (masked, naturally) today because it was too cold outside. Oh, and I've done some strength-training, too--not enough, but some.
Eating plan: Tuesday through Friday were super clean-eating days--lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, greens, beans, and nuts, and very little processed food. I definitely felt better for it. Today is my splurge day--vegan pizza and cupcakes!--but tomorrow it's back to clean living. I think it's working for me, and I'm going to keep at it.
Sleep: I've been pretty good about this, making sure to get to bed at a reasonable hour on work nights. I have had a couple of mornings when I've been unusually tired despite getting enough sleep, but given my job and *gestures at world*, I think exhaustion is par for the course no matter how much shut-eye I manage to get.
Meditation: Not as such, but I've done some praying at different times of the day than just my morning prayers, so I think that's going to count. I haven't abandoned the effort, though.
The week ahead: More of the same, with, hopefully, actual meditation.
Sending you warm thoughts, regardless of your weather!

Date: Sunday, 30 January 2022 03:37 am (UTC)Oh, I just remembered I didn't post my update yet. I started to and then got distracted. (I think the plan is to update the chart at the end of every month and since this is the last Saturday of the month, I should post it now.)
Short version: no change, but... considering my nutrition this week, I'm just grateful that I didn't go up. (Last weekend there was alcohol, which leads to snacking. Wednesday, I made a quiche and then ate almost all of it myself; roommate only had two slices.) I'm optimistic that if I could hold my own on a week like this, I should be able to make progress next week.

Date: Sunday, 30 January 2022 08:10 am (UTC)I was doing great and now I'm down with covid, which I suspect will do wonders for my weight, lol, but makes clean eating more difficult as I have no energy to prepare anything. I'm not snacking or overeating though!

Date: Sunday, 30 January 2022 12:19 pm (UTC)Well, I did it! Made it through a full month with no weekday drinking, not even once. Initially I just wanted to see if I could actually do it and having the month-long prohibition was a way to force myself. Now that I know I can, the aim is too make it a long-term habit. I feel so much better for it. I'm more energetic and just more present. Which I need to remind myself is a good thing :) because I kinda like being 'away with the fairies' as my primary school teachers used to say.
I still need to work on exercise and sleep, which I'm going to focus on this week.
Have a great week.

Date: Monday, 31 January 2022 06:26 am (UTC)I'm squeezing this in before bedtime, because I'm actually on a pretty good spree of early nights. :D It's been a decent week. Very stressful on the work front, but happily that hasn't translated to unhealthy eating. A side benefit of starting to stick to a better sleep schedule has also been that my appetite is a little more regular, which in turn makes sticking to a meal plan easier.
