TWO DAYS LATE--SORRY!

But I'm here! It's just been A Week.

How's your week-plus been? How are you handling holiday temptations?

Next week's post will be an annual wrap-up. I'll launch FF2022 on Saturday, 1 January 2022, so our check-in days will move to Saturday.

Weight: Lol! I'm sort of holding the line? I mean, I lost some and regained some and, well, we'll see.

Exercise: In this, I am ever faithful. I'm on break for a bit, so yesterday, I got outside for a walk, and it was glorious! I'm also hitting the elliptical like woah. Still loving it.

Eating plan: I've decided to let myself have goodies, to bake with real ingredients, to enjoy our traditional holiday meals (e.g. Chinese food for Christmas Eve dinner) and not to worry overly much about the scale. That's a January problem.

The week ahead: I'm baking lots of cookies today. Tonight, Chinese food. Tomorrow, Xmas dinner at Mom's. I've gotten a lot of sweets as holiday gifts from students, and honestly, I'm going to eat chocolate. I'm planning to get strict again on 1 January. Until then, I'll just try to balance the eating with regular, vigorous exercise. We'll see how it goes. I'm not making myself miserable over it all.

Happy holidays to those who celebrate! Happy end-of-year for everyone else!

Released by surgeon to exercise!

I'm back up to 25 minutes twice daily on the bike; upper body strengthening back on track. Still waiting on PT, but otherwise feeling pretty strong.

Weight? I don't recommend surgery as a way to lose weight, but it did eliminate about 15 pounds (mostly scar tissue, of course), and I am now down almost to what I was when I was ordained, which is a decent place to be. I would love to drop further, but I'm not going to put in serious effort on that until the new year.

I feel as though I've been more active here this year and it's been a lot helpful. I hope you continue to do this in the coming year as well.

Enjoy the more light as it slowly slides back into our world up here.

xo

So I ended up getting an exercise bike from Amazon. My parents’ bike is a recumbent and that isn’t really what I was looking for. So we’ll see if this helps with “cardio” and the muscle Strength in my legs. I am hoping that will be enough to help me get back to Losing some weight as well. I still have my goal pants in there and am determined to wear them. I actually have several pair I’ve never worn because when I got them they almost fit and then my weight started going the wrong way.

Congratulations - more or less holding the line is an achievement this time of year! (And I think the whole point of being mindful on a day to day basis is to get to indulge on special occasions.)

I've missed more than a few check-ins. The floods here led to me being deployed to the mainland for some emergency coordination work, and despite the stressors, I'm pretty happy with how I managed my meals when I was away from home. (Fortunately, I was in walking distance of a grocery store with a lot of prepared fruits and vegetables that I could stash in a mini fridge.) Overall, I feel like I've made some good inroads with my relationship with food this year, and I've got some elevated goals for next year.

I'm on team 'it's perfectly normal to put on a few pounds when it's dark and cold outside and we're celebrating having plenty to eat despite it being midwinter,' but I'm glad you're feeling good about plans for the new year. :)

To be honest, there was all of one day during my deployment that I couldn't have done what I was doing remotely, but they wanted everyone involved with the emergency response in one place. It was good, though, to be in a place with my body and appetite where I didn't think, "Oh, getting takeout every day will at least make me feel better emotionally and be a nice indulgence when I'm this stressed," but instead, "Oh, eating takeout every day is going to make me feel sick and loagy, better stock up on some fresh things that will make me feel good physically when I need the energy."
