We have survived three months in the year 2022 so far, and I think that's an accomplishment that calls for celebration, regardless of how those months have been for us. I hope you'll find some way to treat yourself today or soon in honor of having made it this far! :-)

Should you like, you are encouraged to share your fitness ups and downs with us here. You're also welcome to share anything else that you'd like. We're easy that way. ;-)

Weight: I lost over three pounds this week and am back to the weight I was at at the end of February, and I cannot tell you how relieved I am. I was beginning to believe that I was destined to just keep gaining, regardless of what I was doing to prevent it.

Exercise: My exercise this week has been entirely on the recumbent exercise bike, and I have only been riding it as long as I need to make up my 10K steps for the day. Otherwise, I have been as sedentary as possible to allow for my ankle to heal, and that has been working! I'm using ice, a brace, a topical analgesic, ibuprofen for the inflammation, and elevation and rest. It's not healed, but it is less painful than it has been in a while, and I think I'm on the road to recovery as long as I don't get impatient and push my luck.

Also, I was expecting to see my weight balloon because I wasn't doing the hard-charging elliptical workouts or the long, brisk walks, so it's been especially encouraging to see that I can lose weight only by using the recumbent bike, even at a low resistance for my ankle's sake, as long as I also keep my diet in check.

Eating plan: I have not felt deprived this week, but I have been eating less and not doing the nighttime snacking thing, for the most part. Not eating once I've finished dinner seems to have been the key this week to weight loss. I've also been eating a lot of salads, either as my main course or before the main course, and I think this has likewise contributed to the decline in my weight. Yesterday, I discovered a place that does made-to-order chopped salads with a fantastic variety of veggies, fruits, toppings, proteins, etc. It's a vegan's dream (if said vegan enjoys salads, which I do). Is it more costly than if I were making the salad at home? Of course. BUT, it's less costly than I'd expected it to be and the small salad is a meal unto itself. I'm curious to see what the large salad looks like!

The week ahead: Tonight is splurge meal night, with dessert, and then it's the same plan as usual: Keep track of nutrition, exercise daily, get enough sleep.

May the week ahead be a good one for you. May you find the strength you need when you most need it.

"My exercise this week has been entirely on the recumbent exercise bike"

i absolutely *lurv* my recumbent bike... no one believes me – but you might! – once i hit the zone on that bike i loose track of time.... my mind suddenly "expands" and it literally feels spiritual to me (go, endorphins!!)

in my own exercise-tales, this week i have been starting to do a few more "back exercises" for my back-pain... i chose the SIMPLEST exercises i could find (i.e. "the plank" and "superman") and i have been doing them for about 3 days and i am already starting to feel a difference... on the downside, my back-muscles are protesting a bit (making me walk around like an old lady) but this morning i woke up, got out of bed and was almost to the bathroom before i realised i didn't feel like my discs were crunched together... and i also realised that last night (when i was reading in bed, and while going to sleep) my discs were grinding then either....

so i am going to put up with the old-lady-walk... i would rather have these achey muscles (for now) than to feel the problem with my discs <3 bh

I'm glad to hear your ankle is healing and about the weight loss. That's fab. Salads are such a great way to fill up on good things, especially as the weather starts to change.

I have a cold, which is making me feel tired and grumpy, although I do feel better than I did yesterday. Weirdly, it has made me feel nostalgic for the normality of colds. I haven't had one in three years! Anyway, I'm hoping to do a 30min walk today rather than the longer hour loop I normally do. I was planning on doing callanetics again this weekend, but don't feel strong enough. I did it last weekend, and it's such a great way to loosen up my body when I'm in the middle of exam marking. We've had three year groups in successive weeks writing mocks. It has been relentless. I'm getting another 60-80 essays tomorrow. Sigh. But at least it's done then. I'm just holding on until Easter. I'm going back to SA for two weeks to see my family. First time in 3 years for that too. Yay.
