Fitness Fellowship 2024: Week 43 Check-in
Nov. 4th, 2024 03:42 pmThe end of daylight savings time has had its usual effect, re: I am tired despite taking a full dose of melatonin and actually falling asleep at a reasonable hour. It has occurred to me only very belatedly that as a night owl, I should have chosen a different career, one in which I did not need to be up and alert and social at 8:00am. All of this is to say, my circadian rhythms are borked, and it will take a good long while to unbork them. ;-)
How are you all doing today? How was the week we've just completed? Did you have success with your fitness goals? Any challenges you'd like to share? You know we're here to listen and not judge.
Weight: I was up a bit this AM from last week, but I was down a bit yesterday AM, so I'm going to call it a draw.
Eating plan: There has been the over consumption of tiny candy bars thanks to Halloween, but I also roasted my own pumpkin seeds, so I suppose that's something. Yesterday, I made a big pan of roasted baby red potatoes and also a casserole dish of baked diced apples. Yum!
Exercise: I did yoga only four days last week. I work until 5pm on Mondays and Fridays, which makes Tuesday-Thursday the best days for me to do yoga, if I'm going every-other-day or so because I'm still babying my stamina. Anyway, Wednesday was a lovely day, so I went for a walk after work instead of doing yoga. I chose a 1.5 mile walk, and that last half-mile made it clear that I am still not quite up to my old tricks yet. I did yoga both Saturday and Sunday, and on Saturday, I took two walks for a total of 2.4 miles or so. I was VERY tired after that. Sunday, besides doing yoga, I did a lot of housework and no other formal exercise. My rule of thumb for activity these days is to sit with my body for a bit and see how I feel. If I have energy, I'll try to do something; if I don't, I won't.
Hydration: Yes.
Sleep: I had some difficulty with staying asleep last week; some of that is anxiety dreams waking me up. Some is doubtless the changing season. If I can continue to get off screen before bed and get to bed by 11:00pm, I should be okay.
The week ahead: This is a stressful week at work; I have a lot of additional obligations, including parent-teacher conferences. I'm going to try to be "good" in terms of food choices and make sure I get some yoga and walking in. Saturday we leave for two nights in one of our favorite places, and Sunday is my birthday, an occasion I have been mindfully decoupling from the traumatic associations of my childhood for several years now. I am very much looking forward to wandering around our favorite place, shopping at our favorite bookshop, and eating all sorts of good food, including vegan cake for my birthday. I also hope we'll get some hiking in, but that depends on both the weather and my stamina.
Here's hoping the week ahead is a good one for us all!
