I like puns. That seems to be a good place to start. Also, it serves as a reasonable explanation for what is about to happen.

Recipe for Disaster

1 part denial (Optional flavors:

· This is not my father’s America

· No women, no way!

· My candidate or no candidate

· That guy doesn’t have a chance)

2 parts disenfranchised former majority

1-1/2 part apathy

3 parts campaign fatigue

2 parts unexamined religious fervor

2 parts tone-deaf progressivism

3 parts unresolved regional tensions

4 parts cynicism

Dump all the ingredients into a post-truth, alternate facts blender. Press the power-to-the-people-who-are-just-like-me-and-not-those-other-ignorant/foreign/non-English-speaking/redneck/neo-Nazi/libtard/snowflake button.

Serve with a side of recrimination and a garnish of finger-pointing.

Enjoy your just dessert.

Note: I am a part of the collective second person. In other words, I don't intend this as yet more finger-pointing. Like so many people have, I've been trying to figure out how it all fits together. I'm sure you could embellish this recipe with any number of other "ingredients."

That said, it seems like it's in our best interest to continue examining the root causes so that we might address them and make actual progress. I am ignoring for a moment the fact that the actual thing we have to swallow is so immensely nauseating and profoundly damaging to our future as individuals and as a nation that we'd likely never survive the test kitchen.

I think a lot of people gave up last year after the primaries, and a lot of people thought they knew how shit would turn out...but right now i just hope we all (the world) survive the next 4 years and we can do better next time.

I'm with you, re: surviving the next four years. Right now, I'm trying to balance being informed with avoiding despair. I want to know what's going on, but sometimes what's going on is so damned depressing that I can't quite deal. Still, we'll make it through, right? *hopes*
