Fitness Fellowship: Week Two
Jan. 15th, 2018 12:35 pmHello, Friends:
We've just had a second week of attempting to achieve our personal fitness goals, so as is the norm, please share what you'd like about how you did this week in reaching (or not reaching) those goals and what you plan to do in the week ahead to make fitness your focus.
If you're just joining us, feel free to jump in! :-)
One and a half out of four isn't bad, is it? *rueful grin*
So the eating habits have been pretty good; I've been healthy as much as I can be, and that's definitely been paying off.
I'd also been doing well on exercise, having ridden the recumbent bike for two days and gone for a brisk walk on a third, and then I came down with a cold and lost the will to do anything but eat carbs and read.
I have not meditated at all this week. In fact, until a couple of days ago, I'd forgotten that that was a goal. D'oh!
My sleep had been okay until Saturday night/Sunday morning. Anxiety set in (I have no idea what triggered it, which is frustrating because I'd been doing really well), and I was up half the night. Coupled with the ensuing exhaustion, this cold took me out at the knees yesterday. I'm typically pretty stoic about illness, but this cold has got me on the mat. I'm really hoping I can shake it because I do have to go to work this week. Thankfully, it's exam week, and I have AM proctoring duties tomorrow and Wednesday, which are functional half-days in that case.
Off to pour tea down my gullet and read some more. At least I'm having no trouble making my Goodreads goal so far. ;-)
Have a fabulous week three!

Date: Monday, 15 January 2018 06:12 pm (UTC)I did pretty well on the exercise front again. Two ballet classes, strength training on two days, and a long walk on Saturday, too (it was unintentional, really, I just meant to go out for a bit, and ended up staying two hours because I felt like it). Hmm, what else did I have? Sleep - like I said, one very badly slept night, otherwise some problems, but those were mainly my own fault, staying up too late reading or writing fanfic, things like that. Eating was okay - generally quite healthy, and I did end up having a lot of chocolate and ice cream in the weekend, but I'm not forbidding myself treats, just trying to mostly eat healthy. I'm getting the hang of not eating too big portions, but it helps when I don't go out to eat in a cafeteria at work for lunch, because in those places I often end up taking too much from the buffet table, and then feeling guilty if I don't finish my plate.
Yay for reading! *goes off to do some of that*

Date: Monday, 15 January 2018 10:45 pm (UTC)I'm really impressed with your portion control. After getting back into healthy habits regarding what I eat, my next challenge is always how much. The good news for me is that anxiety reduces my appetite. The bad news is, of course, anxiety. ;-) But I appreciate that you're working on portion control and am duly impressed! Also, congrats on keeping to your physical fitness goals--that's marvelous! Yay!

Date: Tuesday, 16 January 2018 03:46 am (UTC)Exercise-wise, I went to pilates class, have been sticking to the every-other-day strength routine, and have even been doing some cardio (uh, I am assuming marital-related cardio counts ;)). Need to get off my arse and actually get moving!
Food-wise: this has been not so hot this week. I went through a zero-alcohol period for a month and a half after a decade of drinking at the limit of the recommended alcohol consumption for women, so that's a positive. Less positive: getting back on sugar as a reward to self for going alcohol free; also, I've added back a glass of wine at dinner/an aperitif after dins, and have I gone back to no sugar? +sigh+ In an attempt to get back onto the sugarless wagon I had a nice qunoia salad for lunch and lean protein at dinner, and hopefully today will similarly feature no sugar and healthy grains.
Sleep-wise: this has been good, unless you count Daughter going through some temporary school anxiety and wanting to come sleep with us again. But we were a co-sleeping family, and I sleep well regardless ;)

Date: Wednesday, 17 January 2018 12:39 am (UTC)I can definitely relate to the sugarless struggle; keep up the effort! I can also relate to going cold turkey, re: alcohol. I had a pretty unhealthy relationship with alcohol for a long time, and going cold turkey was hard but necessary. Anyway, it's understandable that you have substituted sugar in there. I hope you find a balance in the week to come. :-)
