Greetings from my last week of teaching duties before summer break! Despite the work being exhausting and sometimes disheartening, there is something to be said for the reward of precious time. I have so many plans for just living a healthier life during my break, hopefully inculcating some new(ish) habits to make me healthier during the work year.

I hope whatever your week has been like, you'll feel comfortable sharing your ups and downs with us here. I look forward to touching base with you each week.

Weight: 193, down 1.4 from last week's weigh-in. I am so chuffed about this because it seems to suggest that my instincts about last week's uptick were correct, re: I hadn't done anything to "earn" a weight gain. (I recognize that this isn't the healthiest way to look at weight. My attitude toward food, diet, etc., has been evolving since the social crucible of middle school. Believe me when I tell you this is a much healthier outlook than I used to have.)

Exercise: Yoga 4/4, strength-training 4/3, significant steps every day, and a TON of gardening yesterday!

Eating plan: This week, I avoided a big splurge meal, though I did have vegan baked goods in the house, and I kept an eye on my dinner portions and was, I think, more temperate there. I made big salads a couple of nights, had rice, beans, and greens/veg a couple of nights, and generally tried to stick to whole food options whenever/wherever possible.

Hydration: Yes!

Meditation: I meditated FOUR times (out of two pledged) because there's a digital badge for meditating, and I was behind. LoL!

Sleep: I was pretty good about this, though I think there were two work nights when I got to bed a little after my usual time.

The week ahead: I have exam duties today, tomorrow, and Wednesday, and I have to grade my own exams, which are being taken tomorrow morning, but after that, I'm free. I am SO looking forward to breakfast smoothies! I've also made a deal with myself to try one new recipe a week from my legion of vegan cookbooks (this week, I'm going to be making an Asian-inspired edamame and corn salad with toasted sesame dressing). I need to learn some new cooking techniques to expand my repertoire for meals during the school year. I'm also planning to go cemetery hunting/exploring this summer, so that means lots of rambling, I hope. And we have two vacations planned specifically to do a lot of hiking, so there's that.

May the week ahead be full of time for you to spend on yourself. :-)

I am psyched for you that your school year is ending and that you have happy-making plans for your summer!

I'm back on the exercise bike. Haven't looked at my weight in a while because I don't need more things to be stressed about, but the exercise is already have a noticeable effect on my blood pressure, which is nice.

In the food world: I'm once again letting go of sugar, and most dinners are salads these days. I have the dreaded colonoscopy upcoming, so the salads will have to disappear for a few days next week, but the colonoscopy itself should be the last check on the trauma from 2019/2020 to make sure the scar tissue isn't doing anything untoward. So I'm actually looking forward to that.

Later this week we're heading to Ashland for the Shakespeare Festival. I haven't seen live theatre in far too long and I'll mask, but I'll freaking be there. That's what's happy-making in my world right now.

It's nice to be back.

whimsicalmeerkat: A black and white image of a meerkat on a pile of books in front of a ball of yarn. There is a Lamy Safari fountain pen sticking through the yarn. The meerkat is wearing a vertically striped scarf and holding a glass of whisky. The words Whimsical and Meerkat in script frame the scene. (Default)

I slacked off bad last week, but I've already taken one walk today and I'm signed up for 3 gym classes this week.
