Fitness Fellowship 2023: Week 27 Check-in
Jul. 2nd, 2023 02:07 pmGreetings here at the end of another week. It's hard to believe we're just over the year's halfway mark, isn't it? How has that year gone for you in terms of fitness? What changes, if any, are you anticipating for your fitness goals in the months to come?
As always, please feel free to share as much or as little as you're comfortable with sharing. We're here to listen, not to judge. :-)
My weight is up today because I had Chinese food as my splurge meal last evening, and for the first time in a long while, I didn't get any appreciable exercise yesterday. This is, in part, due to how awfully humid and hot it's been here and in part to my reluctance in getting the cleaning done around here. I've had to chivvy myself into doing necessary tasks by breaking them up with periods on Twitter (such as it is these days), Pangram games, and/or reading.
Anyway, before this morning's little uptick, I had lost 3.8 pounds, another .6 pounds for this week. I am satisfied with losing about a half-pound a week. I think that's a reasonable weekly goal, and the intermittent fasting seems to be working quite well, as long as I do get that daily exercise.
I'm also pleased to report that the side effects I'd been experiencing have subsided entirely, which is a relief.
Hydration has been good, particularly since it's so warm out, but sleep has been problematic. I'm having an issue with my mattress causing a fairly astonishing level of very localized pain, mid-back, that actually robs me of breath when I move in the morning and which means that if I get up early to use the loo but hope to go back to sleep, that's out of the question. I'm going to turn the mattress tonight, but I have a feeling I'm looking at an investment in the near future. If I can lose some significant weight, I might be able to stave that off, though--I don't have this issue with my back until I reach a certain weight threshold.
Once again, I'm forcibly reminded of all the reasons I really do need to keep my weight down. *sighs*
Anyway, I'm on the right track with IF, so I'll keep at it.
For the week ahead, my goals remain: exercise, continue IF, hydrate, breathe/meditate, and get as much sleep as my back and my mattress allow.
I hope the week ahead is gentle on you, friends.

Date: Monday, 3 July 2023 05:41 pm (UTC)I went to Pilates on Tues and feel as if I am getting stronger and the exercises are a little easier. Didn't do any Callanetics nor fasting because I had a busy week physically and can't not eat all day if I'm having to run around. We had 'fun' sports day on the Mon and I had to get into the spirit of things and participate in the egg and spoon race and wellie wanging (which is not a weird sexual fetish but rather a peculiar West Country competitive activity where you throw a wellington boot as far as you can). Then, in the spirit of pretending to be an enthusiastic sort of person, I signed up for staff rounders after school on Thurs. So I did a fair bit of additional exercise and tallied up about 1000 sociability points, which considering that I have a 1000-point sociability deficit at work was probably a necessary thing.
We're going to the Czech Republic for 2 weeks in the summer holidays and are hoping to do a lot of hiking. That's still 3 weeks away though *sigh*.

Date: Tuesday, 4 July 2023 12:17 pm (UTC)Goals for the week before last:
- Do not do things related to my environmental organization (or to work) after 9 pm, or 8 pm if I can.
- Turn off computer at 10 pm every day.
- Go to bed and turn out the light at 11 pm every day.
I think those were okay?
- Hopefully go hiking again. : D
Yes! \o/ I went hiking four days (two overnight hikes).
- It's hard to set a goal for running and working out; it depends on how many hiking days I do--I might go out overnight Monday-Tuesday, and then possibly also on the weekend.
I think I only worked out once and did not go running, but hey, there was a lot of hiking.
- When I eat sweet things, decide beforehand how many pieces of chocolate or whatever that I can have, and then don't eat more.
Yes. It's funny, I always think I'll want sweet things when I'm out hiking, for energy, but in fact I want them more when at home...
Report on last week: Well, I slept badly in the beginning of the week, because board meeting, but after that it was fine. I went on a botanical survey camp Wednesday-Sunday and so was outside a lot for four days, but not actually getting a lot of exercise--our goal was to see as many vascular plant species as possible on each 10x10 km squares, which involved going by car and moving slowly when outside, so as not to miss any species. But hey, we were outside! No working out.
Goals for this week: (I am now at the family summer place for a week, and did not bring my running shoes.)
- Do not do things related to my environmental organization (or to work) after 9 pm, or 8 pm if I can.
- Turn off computer at 10 pm every day.
- Go to bed and turn out the light at 11 pm every day.
- Go for a walk every day.
- Work out every day.
